AIT Director Sandra Oudkirk traveled south from Taipei in the morning of February 17 to start off a series of meetings in Tainan. Ms. Oudkirk first visited President Dr. Su of National Cheng Kung University, participated in keynote speeches, then met with Tainan Mayor Wei-Che Huang and several other officials to exchange thoughts and ideas on cooperation between the United States and Taiwan. We have received requests from our friends at the AIT quite a while ago to visit and discuss issues such as Taiwan-U.S. relations, cross-strait relations, Indo-Pacific strategy, Asia-Pacific affairs, domestic political conditions, and electoral issues, to exchange insights with our professors, and to communicate perspectives in a genuine, off-the-record manner.
Over the years, NCKU’s Political Science department has welcomed numerous important officials and scholars from The United States, Japan, The European Union, and China. Director Oudkirk’s visit has gathered some of the most prominent US Officials in Taiwan to our Political Science department to engage in insightful discussion. We would like to thank the professors for participating in this private meeting, sharing the viewpoints of Taiwanese scholars on important regional and global affairs with US officials, and communicating expectations with regards to Taiwan-U.S. relations. Until next time!
