International Student Graduation Requirements


Master's Degree:

To help international students acquire detailed and integrated knowledge of political economy, the Institute's graduate curriculum is divided into core and elective sections. In addition to a thesis, the core section consists of two compulsory courses: Political Economy, and Research Methodology in the Social Sciences. Electives have been organized into three groups: political theory, public administration, and international relations. Students are required to declare one major (minimum 6 credits) and to take 3 credits each of focus from rest two groups.

Ph.D. Degree:
  1. All Students must declare their major (minimum 6 credits) and to take minimum 15 credits from elective courses.
  2. The Department of Political Science requires all Ph.D. students to present proof of (a) a high-intermediate level test score on the General English Proficiency Test before applying for a doctoral dissertation oral defense, or (b) the publication of at least one research paper in an English-language academic journal in a related field. For papers written by two or more authors, the oral defense applicant must be the first author. Foreign students who are native English speakers are required to present proof of Chinese proficiency at a primary level.
